Seven Mile Road

I have quite a few regrets when I look back. Here's a biggie. I grew up with three grandfathers and assumed this was normal. My grandfather on my mothers side abandoned my grandmother, my mom, and my aunt when they were still very young. My grandmother eventually remarried a man named Ronald, a confirmed bachelor from Baltimore. He had led an amazing life including being present at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. We visited Hawaii and he was able to walk us through that morning as seen through his eyes. I was fascinated. We never heard much about his wartime experiences because we never bothered to ask. I assumed he would always be around and I missed a huge opportunity. He's gone now and I will forever regret not sitting him down in front of some recording device and asking him to tell of his adventures. What a great testimony that would've been!

I was listening to Steves commentary on the rolling conversation on the seven mile journey between Jerusalem and Emmaus. I've read it before and heard it "taught" before but this time was different. Steve called it the "ah haa moment" when the two finally recognize Jesus. They were actually sarcastic with him when they asked, "where have you been...?" then give him the rundown on current events. Then Jesus returns the favor when he places himself in the old testament. Imagine Jesus quoting the prophecies of old concerning himself and actually inserting his name. That would have been quite a conversation to get on record. We're told there are many things Jesus did that were not recorded (John 21:25). I wish we had this one. And they said their hearts were set ablaze while he was speaking.

Do I really believe he is who he says he is? Do I believe he can do and will do what he says? Sometimes I miss that opportunity to listen as he speaks.
